Clint,
When Elvis died we had been on hiatus for about six weeks, during which
time we didn't color his hair. When I came to the mortuary to prepare
his hair for the funeral, I brought all my tools but not the hair dye.
One of the first things I saw as I stood next to him was a regrowth of a
half-inch of white/gray hair, most noticeably at his hairline.
Fortunately, there was a female attendant who had black mascara in her
purse. Thanks to her generosity, I faked it, and it did the trick.
Clint, now that you bring up this subject, I want to clarify something
because of some outlandish rumors that have been flying around. The
very first thing I became aware of when I walked up to Elvis and stood
next to him was his incredible beauty. Even though the life had left
his body, and after so much illness and the ravages of his lifestyle, no
one looked like Elvis. His features, especially his perfect nose and
his lips, were unique. I know there is a picture taken of him in his
casket, and some people have said it doesn't look like him, especially
the nose. But you need to realize that it was hastily sneaked by an
amateur at an awkward angle, with no flash, in poor lighting. Plus, as
everyone knows, the Enquirer is infamous for its altering and
airbrushing pictures for more sensationalism.
Hope this clarifies and answers your original question.
